As people around the country celebrated the birth of our nation on July 4, south central Texas was hit by a devastating flood claiming over 130 lives, many of which were children.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, people from around the country have found ways to assist impacted communities.
Some have traveled to help search for those missing or to bring needed supplies.
Many have also donated to relief organizations, while others have kept the people of these communities in their prayers.
Our nation has a long history of people coming together after tragedy strikes.
Those of us old enough to remember the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, think back to a nation that came together under unified political leadership.
Unfortunately, many of those in elected office today seem to have forgotten how to unify in the aftermath of calamity.
As American citizens joined in support of the victims of the Texas floods, many Democrats seemed more intent on casting blame than offering comfort.
One example of this is Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas. In Congress, she represents citizens in the Dallas area. She seems to be a leading voice of the radical left within her party.
A Google search regarding her comments concerning the flood will unlikely find any words of comfort for victims and their families.
What you will find are several stories regarding her contention that Republican policies are to blame for the tragedy.
What was the main reason for Rep. Crockett’s assertion that Republicans are to blame?
She claims that federal agencies under President Donald Trump's administration were not prepared. She also believes it's the fault of Republican policies that she claims are curbing efforts to roll back climate change.
She even went so far as to say that Republicans would rather "bury their constituents" than support policies to protect them.
The second assertion by Crockett and some of her colleagues that the climate change policies of Republicans are to blame seems a little far-fetched for anyone who remotely follows history.
Flooding has been an issue as long as humankind has inhabited the Earth.
I seem to remember reading about a small flood several thousand years ago in which a guy named Noah built an Ark under God’s direction to preserve life on our planet.
Additionally, the hill country in Texas where the recent flood occurred has a long history of flooding. According to AccuWeather, this area is known as "Flash Flood Alley" and is "the deadliest place in the entire country for flooding."
When you consider these facts, it seems ridiculous to blame the Texas tragedy on climate change policies.
Disagreements over issues have always been a part of our political system, and there is nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, what we are experiencing in the current political environment goes far deeper, especially on the part of Democrats.
Mark Cuban, a Kamala Harris supporter in the last election, recently pointed this out.
In a recent interview, he claimed that the Democrats’ answer to everything is "Trump sucks" and said this is wrong because it is not about Trump.
It's about the American people and how to make their lives better. In a different talk earlier this year, Cuban also said that Democrats are terrible at selling their message to the public.
Cuban is both right and wrong.
He's right that everything should be about making peoples' lives better, but he is wrong to suggest that Democrats just have a problem with salesmanship.
Their biggest problem is that they're often trying to sell bad policies.
Here are a few examples:
- They supported Joe Biden’s policies that led to the worst inflation in 40 years.
- They supported an open border that led to millions of illegal immigrants, many of them the worst of the worst, entering our country in a four-year period.
- They continue to push back on the idea that biological boys should not be allowed to complete in girls’ sports.
- They often take the side of illegal immigrants over ICE agents and the American people who voted for a secure border and a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Congress usually polls low; however, recent polling shows that just 19% of people support congressional Democrats, while 72% disapprove.
This is a historic low. Donald Trump was elected last year by promising to do things that were popular with the American people, and he has been working to deliver on these promises since assuming office. Supporting popular issues and seeking to deliver on them is a lesson that Democrats should work hard to learn and embrace.
