Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Friday that at the start of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, certain officials showed they were "willing to mislead the American people."
Information in a federal report that pointed to the COVID-19 virus being leaked from a Chinese laboratory rather than coming from nature was "silenced" from being included in discussions with President Joe Biden and in a final report in May 2021, according to sources close to the situation. Sessions called the silencing an "abuse of power."
"And the bottom line is, the people who are in the know is who the media pay attention to, and they are willing to mislead the American people. We now call that abuse of power. They have abused their privilege that they were given," Sessions said during an appearance on "The Chris Salcedo Show."
"And until we go and actually take these people on and actually prosecute them for the things that they have done, we're not going to get anybody's attention. So that's what's got to happen right now."
"It's got to happen where we hold people accountable. Perhaps you've seen some people who served in Congress who may have misled people about investigations. We're going to have to do this," Sessions added.
