Randy Sutton, the founder of Wounded Blue, a nonprofit for injured and disabled police officers, got emotional during his appearance on Newsmax, reflecting on a "little girl" he met at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial who lost her father in the line of duty.
"I'm going to recount one thing. And sometimes it gets a little emotional," Sutton told "Saturday Report."
"Last year, I was by the monument, and there was a great deal taking place, and I was just visualizing the officers who were literally touching, touching the names of their fallen partners or spouses, and a little girl grabbed hold of my leg and started crying.
"And her mother — she was hugging my leg — and her mother came up to me and knelt down by the little girl and said, 'I wish that was your daddy, but he's not.'
"And she explained to me that ... this girl's father was killed," Sutton said, crying.
"And ... these type of emotions will be felt by police officers all over, all over Washington, D.C., this week. And ... it's a very somber, reverent time."
National Police Week occurs every May. President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a speech for the event.
