Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich accused J.B. Pritzker of spreading "nasty, ugly lies" about President-elect Donald Trump, calling the current Illinois governor's comments "malicious" and "nasty."
During a Wednesday appearance on Newsmax's "Greg Kelly Reports," Blagojevich, a Democrat-turned-Trump supporter, accused Pritzker of making defamatory statements about Trump, including calling him a "sexist, misogynist, homophobe, and rapist." He argued that Pritzker, a licensed attorney, must uphold ethical standards.
"These are malicious things that he's saying, particularly the rapist one, when he should know better," Blagojevich said.
"He's a lawyer. He's a licensed attorney. And lawyers have a responsibility as officers of the court, even in the public square, to be truthful and honest."
Blagojevich went further, suggesting that Pritzker's conduct could result in professional repercussions.
"When you say something like that, calling somebody a rapist when you know that he's not, and you happen to be a lawyer, you're actually running the risk of losing your law license," he said. "Pritzker ought to be careful because the voters of Illinois, and maybe people all across the country, could start filing attorney registration disciplinary complaints against him."
"He's one big, fat projectionist," he added. "For him to say that Trump is a congenital liar, he frankly ought to look in the mirror. That's him."
The former governor, who served time in prison for corruption charges, acknowledged his past relationship with Pritzker.
"I've known him for a long time. He used to work for me — now, that I'll plead guilty to," he said. "It was a big mistake. I thought he was a very different person, but he's a very mean guy, actually, and very angry."
"He ought to get sued for what he's been saying because these are nasty, ugly lies, and they are based on actual malice," Blagojevich said.
