Sen. Kaine: Need Senate Vote on 3rd Idiotic Mideast War

By    |   Saturday, 21 June 2025 10:06 PM EDT

Sen. Tim Kaine, after the U.S. attack on the nuclear sites of Fordo, Natanz, and Esfahan in Iran Saturday, called on the Senate to vote on whether they are for "this third idiotic Middle East war."

"The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to the U.S. waging war on Iran," the Virginia Democrat commented in a post on X. "The Israeli Foreign Minister admitted yesterday that Israeli bombing had set the Iranian nuclear program back 'at least 2 or 3 years.'"

But it was "horrible judgment" that led President Donald Trump to "recklessly decide to rush and bomb" the sites, said Kaine.

"I will push for all Senators to vote on whether they are for this third idiotic Middle East war," he added.

Kaine this week introduced a resolution in the Senate, using the War Powers Act, to demand a debate in the upper chamber and for the Senate to hold a vote on any U.S. military engagement that could take place in Iran.

The votes are expected this coming week. Thursday, Trump said he could take up to two weeks before deciding on the United States becoming engaged in the war, and two days later ordered the strikes on the Iranian facilities.
