Attorney General Pam Bondi's Department of Justice is due to respond to Ghislaine Maxwell's appeal to the Supreme Court to overturn her sex-trafficking conviction, furthering scrutiny of Bondi's decision to withhold records from the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking investigation, Newsweek reported.

The Justice Department and FBI are struggling to contain the fallout from the decision to withhold records from investigation, which rankled influential far-right media personalities and supporters of President Donald Trump.

The move, which included the acknowledgment that the sought-after client list never existed, sparked a contentious conversation between Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino at the White House this week. The spat threatened to shatter relations between them and centered in part on a news story that described divisions between the FBI and the Justice Department.

Maxwell, who is currently serving 20 years in prison, is willing to speak to Congress "and tell her story," according to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail.

"No one from the government has ever asked her to share what she knows. She remains the only person to be jailed in connection to Epstein, and she would welcome the chance to tell the American public the truth," the person said.

Maxwell, a British-French-American former socialite, was found guilty of child sex trafficking and other offences in connection with Epstein, a deceased financier and convicted sex offender.

Maxwell in April asked the Supreme Court to overturn her conviction, arguing she was covered by a nonprosecution agreement the government made with her.
