On Sunday, Sen. John Barrasso voiced strong support for Attorney General Pam Bondi amid growing conservative criticism over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, asserting that "America is safer with Pam Bondi as attorney general."
The Wyoming Republican defended Bondi as she faces intense scrutiny from segments of the Republican base following the release of a Justice Department memo dismissing several conspiracy theories related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
"I do," Barrasso said when asked during an appearance on NBC News' "Meet the Press" if he had confidence in Bondi. "We ran to make this country safer and more prosperous. Pam Bondi and her team are getting hardened criminals off the streets," he added.
"America is safer with Pam Bondi as attorney general."
Barrasso's defense of Bondi comes as reports surface of internal friction between Bondi and top FBI officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino.
President Donald Trump reiterated his confidence in Bondi on Saturday, pushing back against mounting backlash from conservative figures frustrated by the findings of the recently released Epstein memo.
The Justice Department released the internal memo on Monday, which concluded there was no evidence that Epstein maintained a "client list" or that he attempted to blackmail influential individuals allegedly involved in his criminal enterprise. The memo also reaffirmed the previous ruling that Epstein's 2019 death in federal custody was a suicide, not the result of foul play.
These findings have stirred frustration among right-wing commentators and internet influencers, some of whom accused the administration of covering up the truth about Epstein's connections and alleged activities. The memo's conclusions directly contradicted widespread conspiracy theories that have persisted for years, including speculation that Epstein possessed damaging information on high-profile figures.
Responding to suggestions of internal disagreement within the Department of Justice or FBI, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed the controversy Friday in a statement posted to X: "I worked closely with Patel and Bongino on the joint FBI and DOJ memo regarding the Epstein Files. All of us signed off on the contents of the memo and the conclusions stated in the memo.
"The suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo's composition and release is patently false."
The matter continues to resonate with many Americans still seeking clarity about Epstein's crimes and associates, while the Justice Department maintains that it has pursued the facts with transparency and integrity.
