Faith and valor, from describing the glory of placing one’s faith where it counts — in God – to inspiring stories describing the courage and fearlessness of two American warriors, are the thrust of this week’s Newsmax Rising Bestsellers. There is also the recounting of a medical practitioner who refused to place his faith in a vaccine that hadn’t undergone thorough testing. And as always, for fiction aficionados, there is the second installment in an exciting new series of courtroom dramas.

Devil's Defense: A Fischer at Law Novel,” by Lori B. Duff (She Writes Press)

Attorney Jessica Fischer is building her small-town Georgia law practice when she accepts a paternity case from a client she finds personally despicable. Although he’s something of a local hero as the high school football coach, Fischer finds him arrogant and entitled. But she has to put her personal feelings aside and meet her professional responsibility to represent him to the best of her ability. “This book is out of my normal reading genre, but boy oh boy am I glad I took a chance. The author has a way of building her characters so readers are invested in their stories. From the first page I was hooked,” wrote Jeanette Shaver for GoodReads. “The supporting characters in this book are no less intriguing and each plays a strong role in the story. Read this book, you can thank me later.”  [Fiction]

All For His Glory: The Near-Death Experience of a Modern-Day Job,” by David Scarlett (Independently published)

This is the true story of workaholic Dave Scarlett’s rebirth after his descent into death as predicted by his mother, who wrote before the event even happened, “My breath will make Dave breathe again—for I AM the creator of life.” This amazing experience both saved his marriage and led him to embark on a totally new career — becoming a pastor and founding the global His Glory Ministry. “Can God raise the dead? Will He transform a broken life?” asked country music star Ricky Skaggs. “Read and see.” Dave’s mother had premonitions about his career change and marriage as well, and wrote the prophecies down each time she received them. “I have followed Pastor Dave for many years now, love His Glory and love the book!” wrote Denise Schuermann for Amazon. “It's full of hope for all!! He reminds us (that) we just need to stop to listen for God to speak!! Thank you, Pastor Dave, for writing it!”  [Nonfiction]

(Cancelled) Sacrifice: How the Deadliest Vaccine in History Targeted the Most Vulnerable,” by James Thorp & Celia Farber (Childrens Health Defense Books)

This is another true story, but this one involves Dr. James Thorp, one of the few OB-GYNs who questioned both the efficacy and especially the safety of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for his expectant mother patients, as well as for the tiny, fragile life they carried within them. Thorp published his concerns over miscarriages, stillbirths, and other complications, and was vilified for it — treated as a pariah. His concerns were later validated. “All I can say is wow! So much information and damning evidence. Thank you Dr. Thorpe for your courage to go against the tide,” said Gary Rasmussen, reviewing for Amazon, and who called “Cancelled” a “must read.”  [Nonfiction]

Red Platoon: A True Story of American Valor,” by Clinton Romesha (Dutton)

This New York Times bestseller is the sole eyewitness account of the 14-hour long Battle of Keating in Afghanistan, as told by the individual who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his gallantry in that prolonged firefight. This book has been out for some years, but was given new life by “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe in his TV commercials for PureTalk. Rowe mentions and prominently displays “Red Platoon” and tells viewers that the wireless phone service supports Romesha's work with the veterans' charity America's Warrior Partnership. Rowe mentions that he met Clinton Romesha through PureTalk and was inspired to switch his mobile service in part because of the company's veteran support. “An account of the horrendous October 2009 attack on the American Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan, told in a frank, engaging vernacular by the staff sergeant and Medal of Honor winner,” according to Kirkus Reviews. “The book is riveting in its authentic detail, right down to the determined attempts to recover American bodies before the Taliban could. Romesha ably captures the daily dangers faced by these courageous American soldiers in Afghanistan.”  [Nonfiction]

The Spirit of a True Patriot: The Inspiring Story of Ret. Captain Douglas J. Ernest,” by Douglas Ernest (Self Published)

This is the first-hand account of Douglas Ernest, who rose through the ranks from private first class in Operation Desert Storm to his retirement at the rank of captain. Throughout his military career he was driven by two thoughts: a trust in his faith in God, and a determination to succeed, no matter what the odds. That creed served him well not only during his military career, but also afterward in business. “It’s filled with powerful insights on patriotism, resilience, and what it truly means to stand for something greater than yourself,” wrote David Sims for Amazon. “The storytelling is surprisingly engaging, making it hard to put down. Whether you’re a history buff, a proud American, or just looking for something uplifting to read, this book is well worth it.”  [Nonfiction]
