New Year's Resolutions for '25: Highlight Failures First

Do not, under any circumstances, make a New Year’s resolution this year.

Why would I say that?

Because one of the reasons resolutions don’t work is that they come from a place of negativity, pressure, demand, and judgment of yourself.

Most people focus on things they want to change.

"This year I am going to stop eating junk food and go to the gym four times a week!"

Nope. That’s setting yourself up for failure because negative emotions are not motivating.

The chances of you following through on that are next-to-nothing, and gyms are kind of counting on it. I want you to stop the mentality of "I suck, and this is what I have to do to be better."

Instead, ask yourself each day that you’re alive what you really want to do.

What do you want to say and think and feel today?

Start to approach life in an exploratory way rather than demanding change of yourself.

You can nudge yourself in the right direction. That’s a healthier approach.

There’s nothing magical about Jan. 1.

Every day is a good day for a new adventure, so consider what would please you and then get the ball rolling. I'm very big on making things, whether it’s knitting or sewing or using resin to make jewelry.

I just love creating and spending time learning how to do something.

What gets your creative juices flowing? What lifts your mood? Explore adventures in the new year instead of coming up with lists of remedies for your inadequacies.
