Under a misguided sense of “compassion,” the Biden administration continues to support policies that undermine the rule of law and lead to this unnecessary suffering — for everyone involved. In the same vein, as Christians, we must understand that lawlessness never comes from God.
Ever since his inauguration, President Biden has operated a clandestine human
smuggling operation to ship illegal immigrants all over the county, conducted in the dead of night to hide from the American people. These open-border policies and the soft-on-crime approach have incentivized a flood of illegal immigration (which, as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pointed out, is mostly “military-aged males”), an explosion in human trafficking, and a booming business for the drug cartels.
And the numbers don’t lie: in the last year, over 2 million migrants from all over
the world have crossed the border illegally, with no vetting whatsoever. These unvetted illegal immigrants pose a dizzying array of threats to public safety and include members of murderous drug cartels, gang members, human traffickers and even potential terrorists.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, there has been a 35% increase in human trafficking in the last year. Likewise, border patrol agents have already seized over 1,000 pounds of fentanyl — enough to kill 226 million people.
The bottom line is simple: the Joe Biden border policies mean more illegal immigration, more drug smuggling, more human trafficking, and more threats to the safety of American citizens.
Luckily, Gov. DeSantis is doing his part to combat the crisis of illegal immigration for Florida, as he outlined at a recent roundtable.
For example, he has already sent the Florida National Guard troops to help stem the historic surge in illegal immigration in Texas. He also issued an emergency rule to prevent Florida licensing for shelters servicing unaccompanied migrant children, a policy that was being exploited by human traffickers.
Gov. DeSantis has also worked with the state legislature to pass laws that deter federal contractors from illegally sending migrants to Florida. In the words of the governor, Florida is “not a sanctuary state for illegal” immigration.
Now, that is not to say that our hearts should not be filled with compassion for
those in other countries. In fact, my own organization, the Jack Brewer Foundation, feeds 5,000 kids around the world every single day, mostly in Haiti and Africa.
But I also understand that in America, our politicians need to focus on taking care of our own suffering brothers and sisters in Christ here at home first. Jesus’ message to go out and “preach the Gospel to all nations” means we have to meet people where they are at — it doesn’t mean we bring them all here.
The sad reality is that any hope to alleviate poverty through immigration to our country is like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket — it’s impossible. Bringing
everyone here does nothing to address the underlying issues with why they are leaving their home country.
Going to these other countries and helping people where they are at, mostly through establishing opportunities and private charity, will be far more effective than welcoming an endless stream of people here to the United States.
But the critics also miss another important point: American kids have dreams,
too. I’m proud to live in a state where we have a governor who realizes that we have to fix our own problems here first before we help anyone else. Charity starts here at home.
Otherwise, we are just bringing people into a system that is already broken.
In many ways, many of these illegal immigrants are often the victims of the open-border policies of the Biden administration, which empower human traffickers and the drug cartels.
As Americans, and as Christians, we must remember a few simple truths:
Poverty is not persecution, lawlessness is not godliness, and feeling good about charity is not enough.
The status quo isn’t good for anyone involved. We have to be smart about our efforts and plan things out the right way so we are effective in bringing about real, sustainable change.
America is in the midst of a spiritual battle. We all see it and feel it — there’s no
denying it anymore. It’s time to come together as one to provide a better future for our children and our children’s children.
As I said to Go. DeSantis at the roundtable, “We have to first start as Americans serving each other.” I’m proud to live in Florida, where our leaders understand this truth and continue to show America the path forward.
