Embedded with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops, Newsmax correspondent John Huddy accompanied the military on the front lines into Gaza City on Wednesday.

A firefight with terrorists broke out, which included artillery hitting and forcing the troops to retreat in armored personal vehicles (APC) for the safety of the forces and the media embeds.

"I'm told we've got to go; this is definitely the front line of the battle," Huddy said in the report airing on Wednesday's "American Agenda." "It's a fierce firefight right now, so we've got to get out of here. Let's go."

In the combat zone, Huddy witnessed civilians carrying white flags and fleeing the city. The trek made a stop at a brief pause of hostilities during a short opening of a humanitarian corridor, his report showed.

"We have to stay low because we're concerned about sniper fire," Huddy says in the report, as cameras show IDF soldiers in a bunker with guns pointed out for cover for families carrying personal belongings and white flags for their safety.

The IDF is pushing into the city to look for Hamas terrorists and tear down its infrastructure, including a network of tunnels, and look for hostages taken during Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

Huddy, alongside three other foreign journalists, were embedded during an IDF operation that had intended to entire Hamas tunnels under the Hamas-held enclave.

"We just got out in the APC because there's a firefight breaking out, so we needed to get out of the APC so the troops can go in," Huddy reported. "There's a very significant amount of exchanging fire."

An interview with an unnamed IDF soldier revealed the forces on the "ruins of Hamas infrastructure," including the destruction of a possible exit for a terrorist tunnel system in a Hamas-controlled neighborhood in Gaza City.

Newsmax writers Eric Mack and Michael Katz contributed to this report.
