Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Friday warned Democrats of "enormous peril" if President Joe Biden is replaced as the party's presidential nominee.
Ocasio-Cortez, during an hour-long livestream on Instagram, said that although there have been legitimate arguments for Biden stepping aside as the nominee, wealthy donors have had a "disturbing" amount of influence on whether Biden should remain at the top of the Democrat ticket.
"People need to understand the reality and the gravity of what these people are proposing," she said, according to an account by The New York Times. "I'm not saying this is all a reason not to do it, but I do think people are talking about this without having two eyes wide open as to what this really means."
Ocasio-Cortez continued, "I have not seen an alternative scenario that I feel will not set us up for enormous peril."
She added: "If you think that there is consensus among the people who want Joe Biden to leave ... that they will support Vice President Harris, you would be mistaken."
Ocasio-Cortez said she has "stood up in rooms with all of these people and I have said, 'Game out your actual plan for me. What are the risks of this going to the Supreme Court?' And no one had an answer for me. … I'm talking about the lawyers. I'm talking about the legislators."
