Authorities say a Chicago woman threatened to shoot former President Donald Trump and his son Barron Trump "straight in the face,' reports the New York Post.

"I will state that I will shoot Donald Trump Sr. AND Barron Trump straight in the face at any opportunity I get!" Tracy Fiorenza, 41, allegedly wrote in an email on May 21 to the headmaster of Barron Trump's school in Palm Beach County. A second email, dated June 5 to the headmaster, said she would "slam a bullet" into Barron’s head "with his father IN SELF DEFENSE."

Fiorenza, who was arrested at her Chicago residence Monday morning, made her initial court appearance at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.

She faces five years in prison.

Threats against public officials have been steadily climbing in recent years.

FBI agents earlier this week fatally shot a 74-year-old Utah man who threatened to assassinate President Joe Biden.

Six days earlier, a 52-year-old Texas man was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for threatening to kill Arizona election workers. Four days before that, prosecutors charged a 56-year-old Michigan woman for lying to buy guns for her mentally ill adult son, who threatened to use them against Biden and that state's Democratic governor.
