The Blackhawk helicopter, involved in the crash with an American Airlines flight on Wednesday, had the maneuverability to move out of the jet's landing path, veteran Naval aviator Rep. Scott Franklin, R-Fla., told Newsmax.

Franklin told "Saturday Agenda" that the American Airlines jet would have had an alert system onboard known as TCAS, or the Traffic Collision Avoidance System, to warn of nearby aircraft.

Franklin suggested that the pilots of the American Airlines flight, if the TCAS system did go off, may have interpreted it as a false positive given how congested airspace is around Washington D.C.

"But also you know you get you get warnings like that sometimes in a very congested environment. They're at a point now where they're only seconds away from landing. So you know whether they could detect that and performing evasive maneuvers, I wouldn't really put it on them. It's really more on the helicopter to avoid," he said.
