Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accused the Biden administration of expediting his tax audit after being nominated for the Pentagon position by President Donald Trump.
Hegseth on Monday took to social media to post a screenshot of an IRS letter sent to him and wife Jennifer saying they owed $33,558.16.
"Of course the outgoing Biden IRS rushed an 'audit' of the incoming SecDef. Total sham," Hegseth posted on X. "The party of 'norms' and 'decency' strikes again. We will never back down."
Elon Musk, who's leading Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, responded to Hegseth's post by saying, "They love the low blows."
During his confirmation hearing, Hegseth faced questions from Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who referenced tax returns of two veterans support nonprofits at which the secretary previously worked.
