Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin says his party "cannot be the only party that plays by the rules anymore" and that he's "sick" of Democrats "bringing a pencil to a knife fight."
He said Monday at the DNC's annual summer meeting in Minneapolis, "I call on all of us to fight for a country that's being attacked from the inside, a country being attacked by an insidious force. … And are you ready to fight? I know Texas is always ready for that, right. Right, Texas? Is California ready for that fight?
"Are you ready to take back our country from the wannabe-king in the White House?" he asked to loud cheers.
He also praised his party for pushing back on GOP-friendly congressional maps in Texas.
President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott "wanted a showdown," Martin said. "Well, hell, we gave them that showdown."
Democrat lawmakers in Texas returned to the state on Monday, ending a two-week walkout that broke quorum and temporarily blocked Republican efforts to redrawa congressional map at Trump's behest.
The Texas Legislature passed the redistricting Saturday ahead of Gov. Greg Abbott's signature.
