DOGE Announces $55 Billion in Savings

Almost a month into the Trump Administration, the Department of Government Efficiency has announced substantial savings in government spending.

DOGE, which is overseen by tech mogul Elon Musk, announced savings of $55 billion. The savings comes from a combination of fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings, DOGE said on its website.

"We are working to upload all of this data in a digestible and fully transparent manner with clear assumptions, consistent with applicable rules and regulations," DOGE said.

The top 10 agencies based on savings from contracts and lease cancellations are:

  1. USAID (US Agency for International Development)
  2. ED (Department of Education)
  3. OPM (Office of Personnel Management)
  4. HHS (Health and Human Services)
  5. USDA (Department of Agriculture)
  6. DHS (Department of Homeland Security)
  7. GSA (General Services Administration)
  8. Commerce (Department of Commerce)
  9. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
  10. HUD (Housing and Urban Development)

The top 10 agencies based on savings from contracts and lease cancellations as a percentage of the budget are:

  1. USAID (US Agency for International Development)
  2. CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau)
  3. EOP (Executive Office of the President)
  4. GSA (General Services Administration)
  5. ED (Department of Education)
  6. OPM (Office of Personnel Management)
  7. DHS (Department of Homeland Security)
  8. Commerce (Department of Commerce)
  9. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
  10. USDA (Department of Agriculture)

DOGE's cuts included ending subscriptions to publications like Politico, Bloomberg and the Washington Post, which has saved more than $1.5 million.

Other savings include millions of dollars in real estate for offices throughout the country including $26 million for the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C.
