The House speaker selection process is an important detail in helping elect the next president, according to former President Donald Trump.

Trump even offered his own "short-term" assistance in a Thursday morning Truth Social post.

"I am running for President, have a 62 Point lead over Republicans, and am up on Crooked Joe Biden, despite the Democrat Party's massive Law-fare, Weaponization, and Election Interference efforts, by 4 to 11 Points, but will do whatever is necessary to help with the Speaker of the House selection process, short term, until the final selection of a GREAT REPUBLICAN SPEAKER is made – A Speaker who will help a new, but highly experienced President, ME, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

The post comes a day after Trump declined to fully rule out himself filling in as House speaker, making remarks before entering Day 3 of New York Attorney General Letitia James' $250 million civil trial.

"A lot of people have been calling me about speaker," Trump told reporters before heading into the courtroom. "All I can say is we'll do whatever is best for country and for the Republican Party.

"We have some great, great people."

Shortly after Trump spoke, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, officially entered a campaign to be the next House speaker, while the next in line GOP House leaders, including Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and his team announced their candidacy shortly thereafter.

The House speaker does not have to be a House member, and there has been sentiment that wants former Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., back in the role as congressional outsider.

Also in the running is Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., the chair of the Republican Study Committee.
