Drone technology designed to stop school shootings in seconds will soon be unveiled in Florida, CBS News reports.
Campus Guardian Angel, a Texas company, has developed nonlethal drones that can incapacitate an assailant in seconds.
"In a school shooting most of the death happens in the first 120 seconds so it's really about how quickly can you get there to engage the shooter before they've had the chance to kill a whole bunch of children," Campus Guardian Angel founder and CEO Justin Marston told the news outlet.
"If somebody comes into the school with a gun, our pilots from our central ops center can immediately start flying them and our goal is to respond in 5 seconds, be on them in 15 seconds and then take out that shooter in 60 seconds," he added.
The devices, which will be stored in boxes on campus, use nonlethal projectiles, including powder pellets, to knock down a suspect. They are also equipped with pepper rounds and a glass breaker, allowing them to quickly navigate in and out of classrooms.
"We feed live video to police, show exactly what's happening, where the suspect is, and even smash through windows with a glass punch to create distractions. This tactic, like during the SAS's famous hostage rescue [at the Iranian Embassy in London], can give officers a huge advantage," Marston said.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis approved $557,000 to fund pilot programs in three Florida school districts.
Florida has reported more than 60 school shooting incidents since 2018, among the highest nationwide.
