An executive order signed by President Donald Trump will see the General Services Administration quadruple in size, according to a report from Government Executive.
Trump’s executive order will move agencies’ contracting work to the department, leaders told employees at a meeting, Government Executive said.
“Over the coming months, we are going to ingest all domestic, commercial goods and services inside the GSA. We’re not going to do all $900 billion, but we will do about $400 billion, so we’re going to quadruple our size,” Josh Gruenbaum, head of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, told employees, according to a recording of the meeting, Government Executive reported.
The GSA will onboard the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management, Government Executive said.
“We now feel as though we have a very mobilized operational process to onboard and ingest procurement from around the government,” Gruenbaum said.
Like other government agencies, the GSA has been downsizing its workforce since Trump took office. Onboarding other agencies into the GSA will see substantial savings, allowing one buyer to act on behalf of the government, GSA acting leader Stephen Ehikian said at the meeting, Government Executive reported.
GSA is also using a new artificial intelligence bot to make work more efficient and allow it to run with fewer employees, Government Executive said.
“This is how we bring new tools in to allow us to do more with less,” Ehikian said.
