Four out of 10 likely Republican caucus voters in Iowa identify as being part of former President Donald Trump's "Make American Great Again" movement, according to a new poll released on Monday.
The survey, conducted by NBC News, the Des Moines Register, and Mediacom, shows that a combined 40% of likely GOP caucusgoers identify as "ultra MAGA" or "regular MAGA," while just under 40% identify as "neutral," and less than 20% as "anti-MAGA":
- 18% Ultra MAGA
- 22% Regular MAGA
- 38% Neutral on MAGA
- 17% Anti-MAGA
Most Trump supporters identified as "ultra" or "regular" MAGA, but almost 1 in 3 identified as "neutral."
Among Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis supporters, few identified as "ultra MAGA" but 1 in 5 identified as "regular MAGA," and more than half said they were "neutral" on MAGA.
Supporters of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley were much more likely to be "anti-MAGA," with over half of her supporters identifying as such, while more than one in three identify as "neutral" on MAGA.
The NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa survey was conducted among 705 likely GOP caucusgoers Jan. 7-12 with a margin of error of plus/minus 3.7 percentage points.
