It continues to be Pennsylvania Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro in the pole position to be Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

Political analyst Mark Halperin has told Newsmax he believes Shapiro remains the front-runner. Appearing on "The Briefing," Halperin said while there are concerns about Shapiro, a lot of Democrats believe he is the best pick, including senior members of the party.

"She's either going to go with him with all the caveats that are there ... and deal with the potential negatives, or they've already decided it's a bridge too far, and she'll turn someplace else."

Concerns about Shapiro include his support for Israel, which could alienate voters in Michigan and other progressives, Halperin said. Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral votes are seen as essential for Democrats to win.

Wall Street donors also said Harris is going to pick a governor as her running mate. According to Axios, the Harris campaign is pressing donors to cut their checks soon, citing a financial rule that bars contributions to tickets featuring a sitting governor.

Other governors in contention to be the vice presidential nominee include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Wall Street donors told Axios they believe they have until Sunday to get their contributions in. Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is also seen as a contender.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has strict rules for some employees at financial services firms regulating their donations to campaigns for state office, like a governor's race to prevent pay to play schemes, Axios reported.

The restrictions apply to employees at banks, including asset managers that do business with a state or municipality according to Axios.

In 2016, high-ranking Goldman Sachs employees were restricted on donating to presidential campaigns after Donald Trump selected then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to be his running mate, Axios said.
