The raging California wildfires are proving there is no political bias in natural disasters, forcing the evacuations of the neighborhoods where Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Vice President Kamala Harris have homes.
"RFK Jr. after his meeting with Sen Cassidy said to me that his home in Brentwood, CA has been evacuated due to the Palisades fire and that he hopes it's still standing," CBS News' Emily Hung posted Wednesday on X, referring to Kennedy's meeting with Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., on Capitol Hill.
Kennedy was a Democrat who turned independent after he was pushed out of primarying President Joe Biden in 2023, and he then backed President-elect Donald Trump before November's election.
When Biden dropped out of the race, Harris took the Democrat campaign reins.
Now, the neighborhood where California native Harris shares a home with husband Doug Emhoff has been evacuated amid the deadly wildfires waging north of Los Angeles, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
"Last night, the Vice President's neighborhood in Los Angeles was put under an evacuation order," Harris spokesman Ernesto Aprezo wrote on X. "No one was in her home at the time. She and the Second Gentleman are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians, the heroic first responders, and Secret Service personnel."
The four-bedroom, 3,505-square-foot property was bought by Emhoff in 2012 for $2.7 million, according to the Post.
Harris issued a statement of condolence for the victims of the wildfires that have destroyed homes and caused at least two deaths.
"As a proud daughter of California, I know the damage that wildfires have on our neighbors and communities," Harris wrote in the statement. "I also know that the impact is often felt long after the fire is contained."
