Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., was not amused by this week's episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," saying that it negatively portrayed conservatives and supporters of former President Donald Trump.
The episode that aired Sunday continued a plotline from the Season 12 premiere of the HBO series that found Larry David's character arrested for offering water to a voter who was standing in line for hours on a hot Election Day in Georgia.
David's arrest and the subsequent storyline featured a cameo from 2022 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. Abrams, an advocate for election integrity, denied her own election loss to current Republican Gov. Brian Kemp 35 times, according to the Republican National Committee.
Later in the episode, a man wearing a pro-Trump "Make America Great Again" hat opens the door, telling David, "I recognize you: You're the wingnut that came down here and is messing with our elections."
Posting on X, Greene wrote: "I watched this week's episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and it was a glaring reminder of why most Georgian's resent Republicans in our state for inviting the nasty commies from California, the Hollywood elites, into our state by dishing out Hollywood tax credits."
Georgia has established itself as a hotbed for film production over the past decade as many Hollywood productions look to escape California tax burdens. Georgia, which currently has no annual cap on tax credits, saw film and TV spending reach $4.4 billion in 2022, up from $2.9 billion in 2019, according to the The Hollywood Reporter.
Yet many Georgians aren't convinced these colossal numbers are of any tangible benefit to ordinary residents. According to state auditor Matt Taylor, for every tax dollar spent on the film industry, the state will only see a return on the investment of 19 cents.
"It returns less to the state in tax dollars than it costs the state," Taylor answered during a hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee early in January.
