A remembrance walk will be held on Aug. 4 to honor the memory of Rachel Morin, the Maryland mother of five who was raped and murdered while out on a jog on the Ma and Pa Trail in Harford County.

Morin, 37, was last seen on Aug. 5, 2023, before going for a walk. Authorities discovered her body on the trail the next day.

Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, was arrested in the murder 10 months later. He will stand trial in October as prosecutors plan to seek a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

The walk will be held at 3 p.m. ET on the Ma & Pa Trail, starting at the Williams Street entrance.

Patty Morin, Rachel's mother, is expected to address the crowd.

"This will be followed by a song to remember and honor Rachel and a prayer. Participants will then walk to the bridge on the Ma & Pa Trail, where those who wish can lay flowers in remembrance of Rachel. Attendees may walk the entire trail or return to the Williams Street entrance," Randolph Rice - Rachel Morin's family attorney, said in a press release.

The event is expected to draw a crowd of 500 to 1,000 people.

"We invite everyone to join us in remembering Rachel, to honor her memory and the light she brought to our lives. It has been a year since her tragic loss, and we hope this walk will bring our community together in love and remembrance," Patty Morin said in a statement.

Maryland Lieutenant Gov. Aruna Miller and Gov. Larry Hogan have committed to join the event.
