Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., set to be President-elect Donald Trump's national security adviser, announced a sweeping personnel overhaul of the National Security Council, pledging that all Biden administration-era appointments will vacate their posts by 12:01 p.m. on Inauguration Day, Breitbart reported Thursday.

Waltz emphasized the need for a team fully aligned with Trump's agenda, ensuring a seamless execution of national security policies.

"All detailees from the Biden administration will be asked to resign by 12:01 p.m. on Jan. 20," Waltz told Breitbart. He explained this decision addresses issues encountered during Trump's first term, particularly with those whose actions conflicted with the administration's objectives.

The NSC is the president's central mechanism for national security decision-making. It coordinates efforts across agencies such as the CIA, FBI, and Pentagon.

Waltz stressed the importance of having individuals in roles who share the president's vision.

"Our folks know who we want out in the agencies," he said. "We're bringing in team members who are 100% aligned with the president's agenda."

Waltz highlighted challenges faced during Trump's first term, citing the example of Alexander Vindman, who played a pivotal role in Trump's first impeachment. To avoid similar conflicts, Waltz's team is vetting appointees carefully.

"The issue with Vindman wasn't during [the] transition — it was that he wasn't aligned with the president's agenda," Waltz said.

Under Waltz's leadership, the NSC is expected to prioritize several pressing issues, including the Middle East, cyber policy, and counterterrorism. He outlined the administration's focus on ending the war in Ukraine, strengthening deterrence against Russia, and reintroducing American leadership in the Western Hemisphere.

Cybersecurity will see a potential shift toward offensive strategies.

"We've been playing a lot of defense," Waltz said. "We need to explore offensive capabilities to deter state actors like China and Iran. If they see we can retaliate effectively, it could reduce their attempts."

Other initiatives include revisiting maximum pressure tactics on Iran and expanding the Abraham Accords. Waltz also noted the need to restore border security measures such as the "Remain in Mexico" policy of Trump's first administration.

Waltz acknowledged that the federal government's bloated bureaucracy has often hindered effective governance. He emphasized the importance of streamlining operations and ensuring alignment with Trump's vision.

"It's about outcomes," he said. "I've asked my team to define what they want to achieve in four years and then cut that timeline in half. We're going full-throttle."

Despite concerns raised by some former officials, Waltz reassured that the transition process is on track.

"We're getting the right people in place," he said, emphasizing collaboration and transparency during the transition.

Waltz described Trump as a seasoned leader ready to tackle national security challenges head-on.

"He's not a year-one president," Waltz said. "He's a year-eight president who never stopped thinking about these issues. We're going to disrupt the status quo and deliver results."
