The survey indicates Trump's prominence as the preferred Republican nominee, commanding 61% support among surveyed Republicans. His lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, another prospective Republican candidate, is pronounced, with DeSantis securing 9% of the surveyed Republican preferences.
In a hypothetical scenario where a contemporary presidential election was conducted, Donald Trump would exhibit a robust performance in a direct matchup against the incumbent Biden. However, according to the Post poll, 15% of voters would opt for an alternate candidate.
As the 2024 presidential election looms, a regiment of eight candidates recently engaged in the inaugural Republican primary debate, aiming to disseminate their propositions among the American populace and the electorate loyal to the Republican Party.
Spanning Aug. 23-24, the Post poll was undertaken to canvass the sentiments of the American public.
Amidst the legion of Republican voters who tuned in to the debate, opinions diverged on the victor.
According to the survey results, 23% said businessman Vivek Ramaswamy emerged as the triumphant participant, while 21% bestow the title of victor upon DeSantis. Former Vice President Mike Pence secured the third position with 11% support from the surveyed audience.
Among debate viewers, 15% displayed unwavering commitment by watching the entire event, while an equivalent 15% caught a portion of the proceedings, although not in their entirety.
Among individuals aligning themselves with the Republican voting bloc for the upcoming 2024 election, 36% of this group actively engaged with the debate, underscoring the significance of the discourse within the party's electoral landscape.
The poll surveyed 1,800 registered voters 18 years of age or older with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.
