Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich blames President Joe Biden's policies for the "madness" engineered by Iran in the Middle East.

In an interview that aired Sunday on The Cat's Roundtable on WABC 770 AM-N.Y. with host John Catsimatidis, Gingrich blasted the White House policies dealing with the increasing violence by Iran proxies — including the deaths of three American military members in Jordan.

The remarks start at the 8:23 minute mark.

"By any reasonable standard, this is madness," Gingrich said. "The United States is following a policy which weakens our own economy, increases our dependence on the world, strengthens our enemies."

Gingrich also questioned if the Biden administration and the people he chose to fill Cabinet positions are even capable of running the country.

"You have to look at that and think, 'Are these people deliberately anti-American?' " Gingrich asked. "Or are they just stunningly incompetent?'"

The Hill noted Gingrich has been previously critical of Biden's handling of Iran, and on Feb. 1, in an interview with Fox News, charged the president was "out of touch with reality" and wasn't brave enough to respond to Iran.

"So you have a president who is sort of the epitome of being out of touch with reality, of being weak, and of just plain lying," Gingrich said in that interview.

"He would pick on the Israelis because it's dangerous to do something directly to the Iranians."

On Feb. 2, the U.S. carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian forces and the militias they support in Syria and Iraq.

In his remarks, Gingrich drew a contrast between the foreign policies of Biden and former President Donald Trump — claiming no nations were willing to escalate tensions with the United States during Trump's tenure.

World leaders see Biden differently, he said.

"The question is who intimidates who," Gingrich said. "When Donald Trump was president, it was very clear that Trump intimidated all these guys. They didn't want to mess with him. They didn't want to take any big risks. They certainly didn't want to get into a fight with him. Biden is the opposite."
