The Ohio Republican Party is endorsing Vivek Ramaswamy as its nominee for governor next year.

Ramaswamy, who ran for president in 2024, is running to succeed Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, who is ineligible to seek reelection due to term limits.

"Grateful to receive the endorsement of the Ohio Republican Party by a historic 60-3 margin," Ramaswamy said on social media. "We're laser focused on growing our Republican voter base & delivering a decisive victory in '26."

President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. have also endorsed Ramaswamy, a biotech businessman.

"VIVEK RAMASWAMY is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio. I know him well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL. He's Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

The endorsement is a major blow to Republican Ohio Attorney General David Yost's campaign. Yost said he would speak to his supporters about the path forward.

"The people of Ohio deserve a choice, not a premature coronation of an untested candidate," his campaign manager, Emily Hottinger, said in a statement.

Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel, a former Ohio State football coach, is also considering a run.

The Republican primary will be held next year.
