Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., highlights his support for former President Donald Trump's economic policies in a new ad for his reelection campaign released over the weekend, the Delaware Valley Journal reported.
The ad features a couple from Old Forge, Pennsylvania, one a Republican and one a Democrat. They praise Casey, a three-term senator from a state with strong ties to President Joe Biden, for having "bucked Biden to protect fracking, and he sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China to stop them from cheating."
The New York Times reported that the ad has run almost 100 times on television channels in Pennsylvania, typically in strong Republican areas like Johnstown and Altoona.
A spokesperson for Casey said that the senator "always does what's right for Pennsylvania, regardless of party," adding that "he stands with Pennsylvanians and doesn't care what any politician has to say about it."
The campaign of Casey's Republican opponent, Dave McCormick, chides the senator in a statement, saying the ad is "another sign of desperation from flailing career politician Bob Casey 18 days out from Election Day."
McCormick's campaign added: "Casey's a weak liberal who embodies the failed status quo, and Pennsylvanians know it's time for a change and are going to elect Dave McCormick to be their next Senator."
"Democrats subtly knife [Vice President Kamala Harris] as they see the writing on the wall," Trump campaign Rapid Response Director Jake Schneider said in a press release reacting to the ad.
"It's not exactly the behavior you'd expect from candidates who believe their nominee is winning," Schneider added. "In Pennsylvania, leftist scumbag Bob Casey is boasting about President Trump's support for American workers."
An official for the Harris campaign said in a statement that the vice president supports fracking and said Casey's ad is not an attempt to distance himself from Harris.
