Perry Johnson, who was running for the Republican nomination for president before suspending his campaign last week, has endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Johnson, a businessman from Michigan whose campaign was largely self-funded, issued a statement endorsing Trump on social media on Monday.

"After suspending my campaign for President on Friday, there is now only one candidate in this race who can provide a solution to our nation's economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat [President] Joe Biden at the ballot box," Johnson wrote. "That person is Donald Trump."

"I look forward to assisting in efforts to elect him next year and uniting with other conservatives to defeat Joe Biden in November," he added.

Johnson previously criticized "corruption" in the Republican National Committee in his statement suspending his campaign last Friday.

"The corruption among leaders at the RNC during this process was appalling," Johnson wrote. "I've said it before and I'll say it again, the people should decide the next president of the United States, not the head of the RNC and her cronies."

Johnson's last attempt to run for office, a campaign for governor of Michigan, failed after a court ruled that he attempted to use fraudulent signatures on a petition needed to qualify for the race.
