Emerson Poll: Trump Beats Biden While DeSantis, Haley Lose

Forty-six percent of Americans would vote for former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup with President Joe Biden, who is backed by 42%, according to a new survey by Emerson College.

Polls results, released Tuesday:

  • 7% say they would vote for another candidate in a Trump-Biden contest, while 5% say they are undecided.
  • 44% say they would support Biden in a matchup with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis,  who 40% say they would back; 9% say they would vote for another candidate; 8% say they are undecided.
  • 40% say they would back Biden in a matchup with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who is supported by 37%; 12% say they would vote for another candidate; 11% say they are undecided.
  • 55% of Republicans they would vote for Trump in their state's primary, compared to 25% who would vote for DeSantis; 8% say they would vote for former Vice President Mike Pence; 5% say they would vote for Haley. No other Republican received 5% or more backing.
  • 44% approve of the job Biden is doing as president, while 50% disapprove.
  • 71% of Democrats say Biden should be their party's nominee, while 29% say it should be someone else.

The poll, conducted Feb. 24-25, surveyed 1,060 voters. The margin of error is plus/minus 2.9 percentage points.
