Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., said on Tuesday that President-elect Donald Trump and his pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., have reached an agreement on abortion: the states will decide.
Tuberville spoke with reporters following a meeting with Kennedy.
"We talked about abortion," Tuberville said. "And the big thing about abortion is, he's telling everybody, he said, 'Listen, whatever President Trump' wants, 'I'm going to back him 100%.'"
Noting that Roe v. Wade has been overturned by the Supreme Court, Tuberville added that a vote on abortion has "gone to the states."
"And that's been mine all along," he added. "I'm pro-life, but I am glad the American citizens have a chance to vote in their state, and he's the same way."
According to The Hill, the senator remarked that his meeting with Kennedy "went good, very positive. He's upbeat."
He also added that he and Kennedy shared concerns about American farmers.
"We talked about our farmers in Alabama, which, they're very concerned about food, and food safety, but not go overboard where we can't have good crops. And I can understand that, and he's very on board."
"He understands our farmers are in trouble, and we want to make sure that we have farmers that can make a living, and we don't lose our family farms," Tuberville stated.
