Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., said Tuesday the Biden administration is lying about the spate of drone activity on the East Coast, adding his belief that they don't "have control" of the situation.
Burchett made the remarks in an interview with NewsNation.
"I mean, when — when have they ever told us the truth on anything. ... Come on, this thing has been going on, and ... I don't think they have control of it, and they don't know what to do, so they're just gonna lie," Burchett said.
The Biden administration on Monday continued to assert the drones are not a threat, chalking up the sightings to everything from hobbyists to "stars mistakenly reported as drones."
Members of the House Intelligence Committee sat for a classified briefing with 28 briefers from the FBI, Pentagon, and Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., the ranking member of the committee, said they were assured of two things: One, the drones are not "federal government operations," The Hill reported.
"No. 2, they remain committed to their message that there is zero evidence of laws being broken by any of these drones," Himes said.
However, Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Ill., told The Hill the Biden administration is not projecting "confidence."
"It's astonishing to me that the Biden administration cannot get their arms around this. I think it's embarrassing for the country, and I think it falls into a pattern," he said.
President-elect Donald Trump weighed in Monday and said the Biden administration, for whatever reason, wants to keep Americans in "suspense."
"I can't imagine it's the enemy," Trump added. "Because if it was the enemy, they'd blast it out — even if they were late, they'd blast it. Something strange is going on. For some reason they don't want to tell the people, and they should."
