Police found weapons and placed two men in handcuffs at the site of a rally for former President Donald Trump in Asheboro, North Carolina, Wednesday afternoon. One of the men was reportedly arrested. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m., as rallygoers poured out of the venue several hours after Trump and running mate J.D. Vance had left the stage.

A local reporter said he and his team noticed a heavy police presence a few yards from them. They saw police speak to two men and pull several weapons out of a silver sedan.

Asheboro Assistant Chief of Police Jay Hanson told local news outlets, "I can tell you that one person is apparently being charged, and no one was injured." Hanson said the Asheboro Police Department is leading the investigation.

CBS17 reporter Russ Bowen said on a news broadcast that police told him there was no real threat to the public.

It was Trump's first time speaking at an outdoor rally since he was shot on stage while giving a speech in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. The Secret Service shot and killed the gunman, whom the FBI identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks of Bethel. The attempted assassination on the former president has raised questions about security failures within the Secret Service.
