New York City Democrat mayoral primary winner Zohran Mamdani continues to hold a strong lead in the race, according to a poll of registered voters from Slingshot Strategies.
The Slingshot poll puts Mamdani, a self-declared "democratic socialist," on top at 35%, 10 points ahead of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa is in third at 14%. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams is at 11% support. Attorney Jim Walden garnered 1%.
The poll results show 13% of the respondents were unsure and 1% picked another candidate.
After losing to Mamdani in the city's ranked choice primary in June, Cuomo indicated in a statement that he will review the primary results and later decide "on what is the best path for me to help the City of New York, as I have already qualified to run for mayor on an independent line in November."
Mamdani's rise caught many off guard, prompting some of the city's real estate leaders to band together to work against his election. They don't like some of his promises to voters, including freezing housing rental costs.
Mamdani also pledged to protect New York from the immigration enforcement efforts of the Trump administration. Mamdani has a "Trump-Proof NYC" platform linked to his website.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested during a cabinet meeting session with reporters that if Mamdani were elected, he'd consider drastic action.
"If a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same," Trump said. "But we have tremendous power at the White House to run places where we have to."
The Slingshot Strategies poll of 1,036 registered New York City voters was conducted July 2-6 with a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
