Dershowitz to Newsmax: Trump May Be 'Justified' in Moving Palestinians

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz on Thursday night on Newsmax praised President Donald Trump for his plans for Gaza, saying that is good to see him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "open to new ideas [and] looking for a way to bring about peace," including by resettling Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip.

"It's complex, but let's at least thank Donald Trump for coming up with the first new idea in many, many years about how to solve this problem," Dershowitz told Newsmax's "The Greg Kelly Show."

Earlier this week, Trump suggested that Gaza's Palestinians be "permanently" resettled outside the territory and that the United States take "ownership" in redeveloping the war-torn region.

Mass relocations, Dershowitz told Kelly on Thursday, are not unprecedented.

"Sometimes moving people is justified in the interest of peace," Dershowitz said.

He noted that at the end of World War II, the United States and England removed some 3 million ethnic Germans from a section of Czechoslovakia called the Sudetenland and returned them to Germany.

"They moved 3 million of them out of Sudetenland and said, 'you can't ever come back here again' and they didn't come back, and there was peace in Central Europe until the Ukrainian war," said Dershowitz.

He added that Pakistan and India "moved millions of people, and they achieved peace."

"So at least let's be open to the idea that perhaps some voluntary, perhaps money-paid movement of people out of Gaza can help bring about what no other solution has ever brought about before," said Dershowitz.

The acclaimed attorney also Thursday spoke out about the treatment he's been receiving from the left because he supports Trump, and called on Democrats to "marginalize" the "hard left, the woke, the AOCs" to recover their party.

"Do we want Dershowitz to be in the Democratic Party, or do we want AOC to be in the Democratic Party?," he said, referring to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. "You can't have them both. They chose AOC. So far, I've left the Democratic Party. If they want me back, and the millions of other centrist Americans who, like centrist conservatives, might disagree with each other but have the best interests of America at heart, then they have to marginalize the extreme leftists, the Liz Warrens, the Bernie Sanderses, the AOCs, and get back to being the party of Bill Clinton and Franklin Delano Roosevelt."

But Democrats, he said, are "so far away from that," and the "Israel test is the essential test."

"If you're anti-Israel, you're anti-American, you're anti-democratic, and you're anti-decency," said Dershowitz.

He also spoke out against NewsGuard, which conservatives say blacklists conservative news by using highly subjective ratings, and called for the "days of Walter Cronkite," when objective news was on television.

"You can't do that with The New York Times," he said. "You can't do that with CNN. It's become so difficult to really objectively find the news. People now use the media not as a way of presenting truth, but as a way of presenting their narrative, whether true or false. And the American public is sick and tired of it."

One of the reasons Trump was elected, Dershowitz added, was because middle America said it didn't trust the media, the nation's universities, or other factors.

"Objectivity is so hard to come by and I'm hoping perhaps, maybe we in my lifetime, or yours at least, will get to a return of the day where we can have trust in these important institutions," Dershowitz said.
