Americans are scared now with the influx of migrants coming across the U.S.-Mexico border and will see who's serious about "at least starting, making the first step to impeach" Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, said Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., on Newsmax.
"I mean, we're seeing the results of an open border in New York City where you've got 4,000 students, American students, being displaced by illegals," Norman said Wednesday during an appearance on "National Report."
"You're seeing crime. You saw the results of the police officers who are getting beaten. Let's let the Senate take a vote on" the two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas likely to be voted on, and passed, in a GOP-led House next week.
"And I think the American people see who's serious about at least starting, making the first step to impeach a man who's been untruthful," Norman added.
House Republicans voted along party lines early Wednesday to move toward impeaching Mayorkas for a "willful and systematic" refusal to enforce immigration laws as border security becomes a top 2024 election issue.
The full House could vote on Mayorkas' impeachment as soon as next week. If approved, the charges would go to the Senate for a trial, though senators may first convene a special committee for consideration.
Norman said Mayorkas, in truth, "is carrying out the orders of the president of the United States, but that being said, you've got to have consequences for him, and there's so many others that need to be impeached as well."
