Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, R-N.Y., said Tuesday on Newsmax that Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas continues to "flip-flop" on control over the border and is in "dereliction of duty."

D'Esposito said on "National Report" in an interview that Mayorkas "is breaking records, but none of which we should be proud of. ... In my time in Congress since [last] January, we have seen Mayorkas flip-flop on his decisions. We've seen him flip-flop on his explanation of having operational control of the border."

D'Esposito said that Mayorkas "testified in front of the House Homeland Security Committee saying that, in fact, he did have operational control, and then went on to say, 'Well, it's different, and we don't know how operational control is defined,' and now we have people who are actually on the ground, Customs and Border Patrol agents who are flat-out, saying, 'We do not have operational control.'"

"And then Mayorkas has said, 'Well, we haven't had operational control for a long time.' They have made it very clear: we didn't have control. It's the failed policies of Joe Biden. It's the dereliction of duty of Secretary Mayorkas. That's what has led to us not having operational control at our southern border, and now it's time [for him] to be held accountable."

D'Esposito said the House Homeland Security Committee's "investigations need to be thorough and comprehensive, and you need to find each and every fact so that you could hold them accountable, and that's exactly what we've done."
