Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., slammed the audacity of President Joe Biden for taking credit for freeing more than 100 Israeli hostages in Gaza, telling Newsmax on Tuesday that he's "drunk on falsehoods" and that his "weakness" is directly responsible for the hostages — seven Americans among them — that remain.
At the Hanukkah celebration at the White House on Monday night, Biden told the gathering, "I've gotten over 100 hostages out." He added, "I will not stop until I get every single one of them out."
To date, 117 hostages have been returned alive to Israel, with 105 coming in a prisoner exchange with Hamas terrorists. The Israel Defense Forces rescued another eight, and roughly 96 remain unaccounted for.
"Well, it's clear that Joe Biden is drunk on falsehoods because nothing could be further than the truth. We still have 100 hostages in captivity, seven of whom are American," Cammack said on "National Report." "And if Donald Trump had been commander in chief when this went down; first, I don't believe that it would have. Second, we would have had our people out immediately.
"I can't even wrap my head around how those families and those hostages must be feeling, hearing Joe Biden say something as ridiculous as that. But this is just more of the same. His entire tenure has been riddled with nothing but falsehoods and lies and misdirection."
Cammack and a group of bipartisan lawmakers are hosting a press conference with family members of some of the remaining hostages on Wednesday. Cammack said their hope is in the incoming administration, not the outgoing.
"At the end of the day, these families don't care who gets the credit. They just want their families home. And that's what matters. And that's what Donald Trump knows, and that's why he's going to deliver," Cammack said.
Earlier this month, Trump warned that if the remaining hostages aren't released by Hamas by Jan. 20, the day of his inauguration, "there will be all hell to pay."
"And now you're seeing: 34 days, and Donald Trump has laid it down; 34 days, and they better be released or else. That is why you have Hamas coming to the table, saying, Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa," Cammack said, adding that Trump's statement emboldened the families of the hostages.
"They were exceptionally hopeful for the incoming Trump administration, which speaks volumes — that we are back, that America will be seen as a leader once again — because all we have had under Joe Biden's tenure is weakness," she said.
