New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan told Newsmax on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump "performed much closer than the polls were saying" in the Granite State.
Scanlan, speaking during an appearance on "National Report" the morning after Election Day, noted that "there's no question that in New Hampshire, and obviously across the country, there's a lot of passion among the voters."
He added, "New Hampshire had an incredible turnout yesterday, I believe it's going to be a solid record for turnout in a presidential general election."
Scanlan said that Trump, who lost the state to Vice President Kamala Harris according to the Associated Press, "performed much closer than the polls were saying" ahead of the election.
He added, "The voters of New Hampshire spoke … it really was an incredible day."
Scanlan also commented on the victory of Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Ayotte, saying that voters "really searched the candidates' records and make their choices based on … the statements in the campaigns that the candidates engage in."
He added that "it is not unusual for a voter to just bounce back and forth between the parties on the ticket for the last several election cycles. Now, the Democrats have held the positions in Congress," both in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, "but then when they get further down the ballot and vote for governor and state offices, they go right back to the Republican side of the ticket."
