Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is not anti-vaccine but instead advocates for vaccine safety, his former campaign manager, Dennis Kucinich, told Newsmax Wednesday.
"I started off helping with his campaign in 2023. And right at the beginning, I asked Bobby, and I said, because of all the stories, I said, 'Are you anti-vax?'" said Kucinich, a former congressman from Ohio and two-time Democrat presidential candidate, on "The Record With Greta Van Susteren."
"He says, 'Of course not.' He's not anti-vaccine. He is for vaccine safety."
Kucinich argued that Kennedy's position has been misrepresented, suggesting that pharmaceutical companies seeking to protect their profits have contributed to the narrative that Kennedy is against vaccines.
"If you are standing between the pharmaceutical companies and billions of dollars in profits if they can rush something to market that's relatively untested, they're not going to like you and say, 'Well, you're anti-vaccine. He is pro-safety of vaccine," he said.
Kucinich said Kennedy's position aligns with the interests of Americans.
"I think the American people want someone who's going to be paying attention to what kind of chemicals and substances the government is recommending be put in their bodies," he said.
"But he is certainly not anti-vax. And if he was, I would have never been involved in the campaign to begin with."
Kennedy, whom President Donald Trump nominated to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, appeared before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday for his first confirmation hearing. He is scheduled to testify before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee on Thursday, The Hill reported.
