Former White House adviser Dick Morris told Newsmax on Thursday that a new poll shows that public opinion has "moved significantly" in favor of former President Donald Trump following his criminal indictments.

Morris said on "American Agenda" that "John McLaughlin, the pollster, came out with a survey that was taken ... before this arraignment but after the news of his arrest and indictment, and after the debate, and it shows Trump gaining 2 points on [President Joe] Biden."

Morris added, "So instead of being 2 ahead, he's 4 ahead. It shows him still at 51% in the primary, it shows [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis slipping to third place with Vivek Ramaswamy taking second place. Trump's at 51, Ramaswamy's at 13, and DeSantis is at 9%."

He added that McLaughlin "asked people: 'Do you think this indictment is motivated by politics a lot, a little, or not at all?' And 55% of the country said a lot, 19% a little, and 19% not at all. And then he asked: Do you think there's a double standard here in the way they're handling the Biden scandal and Trump? And 59% agreed.

"And then they said: 'Do you think this has been brought to divert attention from the Biden scandals?' And 55% agreed. And then the bottom line question was, 'Do you agree or disagree with the statement that the Department of Justice should just let the people decide and stop targeting Donald Trump?' And they agreed with that by 56 to 34."

Morris noted that this poll surveyed "likely voters" across the country, "so this is very significant. It means that the opinion of this situation has moved significantly in Trump's favor and significantly away from the Democratic field."
