Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., on Newsmax Tuesday defended President Donald Trump's top adviser Elon Musk, slamming critics of his access to federal services as Democrats being "sore losers."

Musk, the head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) recently gained access to federal financial and data systems at the Treasury Department and the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, the foreign aid agency that Musk ordered to shut down. DOGE, an advisory body, is not an official government agency.

When asked on "Newsline" about the controversy over Musk, Johnson said, "Democrats are sore losers. They are the party of big government. They recognize Elon Musk is a genius. Organizationally, he knows how to dramatically reduce the cost of, for example, shooting a rocket into space."

Johnson continued, Democrats "realize exactly what he can do when he starts examining government and uncovering all the waste, all the fraud, all the abuse that's going to allow us to trim down the size of government — reduce its cost and its influence over our lives."

Johnson said that "Democrats don't want that. They want government because it gives them power, power to control our lives. That's what they're squealing about right now."
