Actress Drea de Matteo, known for her Emmy-winning role in "The Sopranos," expressed disbelief Tuesday over Hollywood's continued allegiance to the Democratic Party, telling Newsmax she no longer identifies with any political ideology but leans conservative.
De Matteo reflected on the political landscape, particularly within Hollywood. When asked about free speech under President Donald Trump, she appeared hesitant before expressing skepticism about the industry's views.
"I mean, is free speech really back?" de Matteo said on "Finnerty." "I know it is, but Hollywood is — wow, man. Just this week's display of people exercising their free speech — I guess everybody's still so, so confused."
She added, "I don't understand how all of these super privileged, overly educated Hollywood folk are still hanging on so tight to the idea of being a Democrat, as opposed to the idea of being a humanitarian and for doing what's right," de Matteo said. "And I'm seeing it nonstop."
De Matteo, who described herself as an "ultra-liberal," said she no longer identifies with a specific political ideology but finds herself increasingly aligned with conservative values.
"I think the whole system has been sort of broken," she said. "But if I'm going to align with anything, it's going to be a conservative, I think, over [a Democrat]."
