Christmas is a time when God revealed himself in "human language" through the birth of Jesus Christ, Father Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, said on Newsmax Sunday.

"We know in history he spoke through the prophets," Pavone told Newsmax's "Wake Up America Weekend." "He sent different messengers. He even sent angels. But at Christmas, God comes himself. The announcement is that born for you is a Savior who is Messiah and Lord, not just the Messiah of the Lord, but the Messiah and Lord."

Through Christmas, "we know what God thinks," Pavone added. "We know what he expects of us in this life. We know what happens after death. We know how to obtain eternal life."

So at Christmas, people can "unwrap our Christmas gift, which means to get to know this child who was born, who also preached the Sermon on the Mount," he said. "Get to know his parables, read his word, and encounter him in prayer, and carry out the way of life that he came to bring."

Christmas can be stressful, or even sad for people who have suffered loss, but the "one truth of Christmas that endures is simply this God is with us," said Pavone. "You have access to God even in the midst of that doubt, that suffering, that loneliness, that pain and that tragedy. Because remember, this child who was put in the manger was also nailed to a cross."

And even people who don't know how to pray can ask God to let them know he is there, said Pavone, "Because that's the meaning of Christmas."

People have lost faith in institutions he added, including with the outgoing Biden administration, which "filled America with lies."

"I think that's what's leading a lot of people back to the Bible," said Pavone.
"We see Bible sales soaring because I think people want to have a source that they can actually trust, and they want to have a place where they can go for truth."

Truth has been abandoned in many ways, he added.

"We can't say a man is a man and we can't say a woman is a woman. I think that's because for 50 years we've been saying a baby in the womb is not a baby," said Pavone.

He also encouraged listeners not to back away from their beliefs, even during family gatherings.

"If your family members know where you stand, fine. It doesn't have to be the topic of conversation," said Pavone. "But if somebody is going to belittle or criticize, you know, my political views, I am going to stand firm and say, look, this is what I believe."

He suggested sharing a book or website to back up beliefs, but if a family member is looking for a fight, "then say Look, you know where I stand. I'm not going to discuss it right now, but I love you and we're here, and let's enjoy the holiday."
