The Rev. Gerald Murray, pastor of the Church of the Holy Family in New York City, told Newsmax Tuesday he is excited to welcome in Jubilee 2025, which begins on Christmas Eve.
The 2025 Jubilee Holy Year marks the opening of the bronze door of St. Peter's Basilica, which symbolizes the doorway of salvation for Catholics and normally is sealed. The Holy Years are held every 25 years.
"It's a very significant year," Murray said on "National Report." "Every 25 years, the church celebrates the anniversary of Christ coming into the world. And that incarnation of the Son of God is the source of our salvation. It's a great time to thank the Lord for not only coming among us, but then giving us the Gospel, the message of hope, giving us his miracles which inspire faith."
Murray said Jubilee 2025 can serve as a spiritual motivator to take faith seriously.
"Many people go on pilgrimage to Rome during the Holy Year," Murray said. "And the whole idea is to go through that holy door, which is opened every 25 years, and you get an indulgence, which is the forgiveness of temporal punishment due to sin. So, it's a great moment to renew your sorrow for sin and then rejoice in forgiveness."
