House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Tuesday that the Democrats are trying to create a "false narrative" about the monthly payments that President Joe Biden allegedly received from his son Hunter Biden's business account following cash infusions from Chinese companies and other foreign entities.
"The evidence continues to mount, and the Democrats are trying to create a false narrative — like they did with the [Hunter Biden] laptop when they said it was Russian disinformation, like they did when they said the Steele dossier was legitimate — they're trying to create a false narrative to the few Americans who watch MSNBC and CNN and who still read newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post," Comer said during an appearance on "Wake Up America."
"It's not working," he said. "The majority of Americans are keeping up with this investigation. They know that something very bad is happening with the Bidens, that they can't explain why they get millions and millions of dollars from our enemies around the world, and they expect us to investigate and hold them accountable."
Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden's high-profile attorney, claims that the monthly $1,380 transfers were made to repay the president for a truck payment that the younger Biden was unable to finance himself. Comer said the Biden family thinks "everyone is ignorant" of the way financial matters work.
"They assume that the majority of Americans at the end of the day are going to be financially illiterate," he said. "People know that if you make a loan and you receive a loan repayment, you should have a copy of a check that you made the loan to.
"I mean, they're just not being honest with the American people. They want to say, Well the president's son couldn't qualify for a truck loan for $40,000, but then China loans him $5 million, Russia loans him $3.5 million. The list goes on and on of the loans that this family has gotten, but they can't even get a car loan? It makes no sense."
On Monday, Comer released subpoenaed bank records showing that Hunter Biden used a business entity to make monthly payments to his father. According to financial records obtained by Comer's panel, the payments to Biden came after Hunter Biden's business account, Owasco PC, received money from Chinese-state linked companies and other foreign nationals and companies.
The Kentucky congressman also commented on Hunter Biden's expected appearance on Capitol Hill next week to testify behind closed doors to the Oversight Committee.
"We're assuming he's going to show up on Dec. 13, because if he doesn't, he's going to be in a lot of trouble," he said. "So, we're waiting to hear back from his attorney, the one that spends every waking hour trying to attack and discredit me."
