The testimony presented by two IRS whistleblowers Wednesday before the House Oversight Committee marked a "big step forward" to potential impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland, and showed that overall, the investigation leads to President Joe Biden, committee Chairman James Comer said on Newsmax Thursday.

The Kentucky Republican, appearing on Newsmax's "Wake Up America," commented that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has said in interviews that he needed to see evidence that Garland had obstructed an investigation into President Joe Biden's family, "and I think we heard that yesterday from both credible IRS whistleblowers."

"The Democrats, they argued, they screamed," Comer said. "They tried to blame Trump, but they never questioned the integrity of the two witnesses or nor did they try to say anything that the witnesses said was not true."

Articles of impeachment against Garland would go through the House Judiciary Committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, he added.

"I think it's very clear that the plea-bargain deal that Hunter Biden got was a joke," said Comer. "It didn't just miraculously happen all along the way. Over the course of five years, the Department of Justice has stepped in and obstructed that investigation."

He said he also found it telling that the witnesses in Wednesday's hearing "voluntarily said that this investigation was headed toward Joe Biden."

"Most of the Americans who are keeping up with this know the president's crackhead son didn't have the ability to negotiate multimillion-dollar deals from these foreign countries," said Comer. "Yesterday's hearing was very effective. Not just for the beginning of the demise of Merrick Garland, but also for the fact that this investigation is leading towards Joe Biden that show the corruption."

The hearing could also lead to a delay next week in Hunter Biden's scheduled plea to two misdemeanors and a felony gun charge, which has been referred to as a "sweetheart deal" by Republicans.

"Of course, we should see a delay," Comer said. "I think yesterday's hearing was proof of that. But sadly, I don't have any confidence in our justice system. I think that there are so many people compromised that have anything to do with trying to provide any type of justice or accountability for the Biden crimes.

"But Americans are tuning in and keeping up with the investigation, and know that it's "not normal for the president of the United States' grandchildren to get wires from Romanian foreign nationals."

Comer also responded to criticism from Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, who said the hearing came as the investigations into the Bidens have run dry.

"He's the guy that led the impeachment of Donald Trump for simply asking the president of Ukraine if he knew about any type of corruption with the Biden family," said Comer.

But Raskin had to listen to the testimony about the "millions of dollars" that the Biden family got from Burisma.

"This family received over $5 million that we found thus far from that energy company simply for the president's crack-addicted son to serve as a board member," said Comer. "No one on any board, whether it be Amazon, Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, or any of the biggest companies in America make anywhere near that much money for serving on the board."

Comer also commented on accusations made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who said former President Donald Trump is pressuring him to move forward on an "influence campaign" through the investigation.

"I haven't spoken to Donald Trump since he left the presidency," said Comer. "Everything's Donald Trump's fault, according to the Democrats … the Democrats on the Oversight Committee are serving as the Biden criminal defense attorneys in my investigation."
