Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., told Newsmax on Wednesday that President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden will "try to evade the questions" during his deposition with House Republicans next month.

In an interview on "Newsline," Van Drew accused Hunter Biden of being "a con artist" and of being "involved in illegal activity," after Biden initially refused to attend a closed-door deposition with Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.

Van Drew said, "He's not a nice guy. He's a bad guy. But that's not the issue. Whether he's a good guy or a bad guy, it's influence peddling."

He later said that Hunter Biden is "going to do everything he can" to avoid answering questions when he sits for a deposition with House Republicans on the Oversight and Judiciary panels, as he is scheduled to do next month.

Van Drew said, "He's going to have his attorney there to try to evade the questions. But, you know, we've got some good folks on the Judiciary Committee and we know how to really probe deeply."

He continued, "But even after this deposition, there should be — hopefully, will be — a public hearing where we question him in public."

The congressman later accused President Joe Biden of being "involved with ... influence peddling" on behalf of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
